Lasting Impressions Gallery in Kenilworth, Australia has Permanently Closed.

The Lasting Impressions Gallery in Kenilworth, Australia has permanently closed. However for a number of years this was its website. Once the site's domain registration expired the website disappeared from the web. The new owner of the site admired the gallery and the outstanding artists that were represented. Below is a brief glimpse of what the site offered its visitors.
Content is from the site's archived pages spanning a number of years.
The gallery will be missed. Enjoy the nostalgic trip back.

Blast From The Past by Tim Cob: The Gallery has been a landmark for over 30 years, and it holds a special place in my memories as I walked past it every day to and from work. What I miss most are the people and Sheeba, the big, friendly mutt who was always on the porch. Sheeba belonged to a merchant nearby but seemed to have a special connection with the gallery, often choosing to nap near the artworks. This gallery wasn't just known for its art; it was also ahead of its time in terms of technology, being the first to incorporate Visual FoxPro in their back office operations. This blend of art and cutting-edge technology was a unique aspect of the gallery. One day, a visitor, impressed by the gallery's innovation and charmed by Sheeba, decided to show her appreciation. However, she mistakenly thought the gallery owned Sheeba. So, in a gesture of goodwill, she arranged for a special gift for Sheeba, thinking it would enhance her comfort at the gallery. This mix-up eventually came to light, and the gift was given to Sheeba's real owner. But after receiving the gift, Sheeba temporarily changed her routine and stopped hanging out on the gallery porch, which worried me. Fortunately, it turned out that Sheeba was simply enjoying her new comfort elsewhere. This change was short-lived, and within a year, Sheeba returned to her usual spot. To me, Sheeba was an integral part of the gallery, embodying its spirit of uniqueness and innovation.

Some of the ARTISTS Represented Over the Years

2012 / CONVERSATION BETWEEN GLASS AND METAL

World renowned Master Glass Artist Brian Hirst has chosen Lasting Impressions Gallery as the venue for his first ever solo exhibition in Queensland.

As Sarah Evans in her essay writes, Hirst’s unique approach is a ‘Conversation between Glass and Metal’. His hand-blown vessels complemented by gold, silver, and even platinum, create an artform that hints at the functional yet is purely dedicated to the aesthetics of the work. Often drawing on ancient cultures, Hirst’s ‘Offering Vessels’ and ‘Votive Bowls’ combine glass with engraved precious metals. Evoking a sense of the sacred, they speak to more than the immediately obvious beauty of colour and reflection.

The current ‘Unika’ series forms the centrepiece of this exhibition. The use of gold, silver and copper foils are rolled into layers of hot glass. Up to 12 layers of glass and foils are combined to make each individually signed and numbered piece. The central motif has landscape references drawn onto the surface with foils and coloured glass canes. The ‘Unika’ series is a combination of love and materials and interest in contemporary design influences. Each piece is a unique work of art and a true collector’s item.

Brian Hirst has held over 20 solo exhibitions in Australia and overseas since 1986. His work has been acquired by the Art Gallery of WA, National Gallery of Victoria, Queensland Art Gallery, Art Gallery of South Australia and the National Gallery of Australia. Overseas he is represented by museums in China, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan and the USA. He was awarded the prestigious Grand Prize at the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art Museum, Japan ‘World Glass Now’ in 1994.

His 30-year history of engagement with glass art includes a period in the late eighties as the co-head of the Glass Workshop at Canberra School of Art at the ANU together with Klaus Moje, its founding head.

2007 BUNDABERG - QUEENSLAND - AUSTRALIA

Helene Grove

"Life is but a series of moments". This motto guides Hélène's approach to painting. Her work catches the unexpected moment, the instant of movement, the splash of colour with an inimitable sense of humour. Often unrepresentational, Hélène's paintings capture the instant, holding on to the movement within a discernable situation, inviting the viewer to participate.

Hélène qualified and has practised as a Doctor of Medicine since 1970 but more recently, has committed herself to full time painting. This personal commitment has helped her to some impressive results in a number of the most sought-after art awards throughout Australia. Some of these include: being a finalist in the 1994 Archibald Prize, the 1994 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, the 1995 Portia Geach Portrait Prize, the 1998 Kedumba Prize for Drawing (acquired), the 2000 Fleurieu Landscape Prize, the 2003 Wynne Art Prize, and this year culminating in the winning of the prestigious Tattersall's Art Prize 2004,

2007 YEPPOON - QUEENSLAND - AUSTRALIA

Lyn Diefenbach
Lyn was born in Yeppoon and grew up with a family heritage of painting, pottery and wood-turning and had a paintbrush in her hand from a very early age. After working exclusively in oils, Lyn began experimenting with pastel in July 1995 and was quickly drawn to its immediacy and spontaneity. A workshop at 'Willowbank' in Victoria with pastellist Ted Berry further enthused her, so much so, that in March 1998 she received her official recognition as a Master Pastellist from the Australian Pastel Society.

Lyn's philosophy is to be "always learning" and to achieve masterly qualities within her work. She takes time out from her busy schedule for personal development In 1999 she travelled to New York to study under world-renowned portrait artist Daniel E. Greene.

Lyn has become a sought after teacher in her own right, conducting regular workshops in pastel, oils and watercolour throughout Queensland. She has received many commissions and Awards particularly for portraiture and human interest paintings. Her exuberant florals are also highly sought after, captivating the viewer by colour, tone and texture.

Her paintings are represented in major regional collections as well as private collections within Australia and overseas.

CONGRATULATIONS LYN!!!

BRISBANE - QUEENSLAND - AUSTRALIA

MANDARIN ON A BOOK
Acrylic on Board - 36 cm x 36 cm

Ian Mastin
Ian was born in Leicestershire, England, and as a child moved with his family to Queensland, Australia.

It during was the mid 1980's when sketching for recreation, Ian was invited to exhibit his work in a Brisbane gallery. In 1991 he returned with his Scottish-born wife and their children to Britain, settling in East Lothian. It was here that again he was drawn back to his art, and after a year of experimentation in fundamental techniques, committed himself to painting full-time.

Realizing early in his career that traditional still life painted in acrylics would give him the direction he had been seeking, he rapidly developed, along with an obvious excellence in technique, a strong passion for this chosen genre.

JASMINE TEA
Acrylic on Board - 36 cm x 30 cm SOLD

Though he gains inspiration from numerous sources such as the Dutch and Flemish Masters of the 17th Century, his work also suggests a timeless quality that is not bound by tradition or convention.

In particular, Ian enjoys working with items of simple utilitarian use - the detritus of life from earlier generations - a sense of appreciation in reflecting upon old, used everyday objects which may have little intrinsic value other than have a strong attachment to an intimate past.

Ian exhibits regularly throughout Scotland, England and now again, Australia, though his paintings with their obvious appeal are found in collections throughout the world.
